Department of Sanskrit
The department of Sanskrit is one of the oldest departments of Kanchrapara College. It started functioning since the initiation of the college in
the year 1978. Back then the college offered the three years general degree course. It was as late as in 2002 that the three years honours course
was introduced. Lately, the department has completely reoriented itself to adapt to and to incorporate the new CBCS syllabi and is running smoothly
with around fifty to sixty honours students each year and more than three hundred students in general degree course.
Apart from the lecture method, we advocate the practice of learner centric teaching methods. Thus students are encouraged to arrange short seminars and to take part in group discussions. The teachers keep a keen eye on each student, mark their weaknesses and strengths and prepare them accordingly for university examinations. The students also keep constant touch with the department after graduation, even after post-graduation for personal and academic counseling. In consequence, the department has a huge body of successful alumni teaching in schools and colleges.
The faculty, in constant collaboration with U.G.C., organizes seminars and participates in conference organized by colleges and universities in the country and outside it. The teachers are also associated with various administrative and organizational activities in the college and are involved in academic activities of the affiliating university.
